Timothy Moran

My AML Story…
by Timothy Moran,
Founder of Campers for Cancer

At 50 years old, I began to notice strange physical changes — lightheadedness, bumps on my skin, bleeding gums, and shortness of breath. My doctor sent me to urgent care, where I was given antibiotics and sent home.
Two weeks later, the symptoms worsened. At the ER, doctors discovered all my blood counts were at critical levels and immediately began transfusions. The next day, a doctor told me she suspected acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — but not to “freak out” when I looked it up.

When I saw the survival rate online, I was terrified. My life changed in that moment.

My Caregiver Story…
by Annmarie Castaldo

When my husband Timothy was diagnosed with AML, we had to leave our full-time RV life behind and relocate to Tampa for the lifesaving treatment he needed at Moffitt Cancer Center.
Like many Florida families traveling from hours away, we spent months juggling hospital stays, temporary housing, and even the loss of our RV home during a hurricane.
Our experience showed us how vital it is for patients and caregivers to have a stable, affordable place to stay near treatment. That’s why we helped create Campers for Cancer: to provide free RV campsites close to care, far from stress — giving families a safe place to rest and heal during the hardest moments of their lives.

S

Losing A Parent…
by S’iva Goodman

Mom’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer came as a devastating shock, moving with a speed that left our family breathless. One moment we were planning for the future, and the next, we were thrust into a
whirlwind of medical appointments and difficult decisions. Every second soon became a precious commodity.
Having her live so close to the hospital was a mercy we didn’t fully appreciate until we were making that drive daily; it meant less time stuck in traffic and more time holding her hand, filling our days with presence rather than travel.
That experience is why I joined Timothy and Annmarie on the Campers for Cancer mission. We know firsthand that when you’re fighting a battle this tough, the last thing a family needs is the added stress of a long commute or expensive lodging.
